Lauren Withhart holds an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Maryland and a BFA in Dance from Florida State University. She has studied with a multitude of artists ranging from the traditional (Suzanne Farrell, The Martha Graham Dance Company, Lynda Davis) to the contemporary (Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Dawn Springer, Ann Carlson). Since locating to Baltimore in 2005, Withhart has performed with Vincent Thomas/VT Dance, Gesel Mason Performance Projects, The Dance Exchange, Adriane Fang, and joined PEARSONWIDRIG DANCETHEATER for their tour of Unmoored (Love Letters to New Orleans). This is Lauren's eighth season with The Collective and fourth year as Artistic Director of withhart.dance.projects. Her original and collaborative works have been seen throughout the metro DC area, Florida and New York. Her most recent project, Rite, was presented at Dance Place in Washington, DC as well as Movement Research and Judson Memorial Church in New York City. She has served as Adjunct Faculty at CCBC, UMBC, and guest instructor with The Dance Exchange and The Peabody Institute. Withhart also holds a Master's degree in Psychology and works with children diagnosed with autism and behavioral disorders. Her greatest joys, however, are her 1-yr-old twin boys, Benjamin and Henry.
